After approximately 2 hours by SGR, you will arrive in Morogoro. Your private safari vehicle and professional driver-guide will meet you at the station and continue with you toward Mikumi National Park. The drive from Morogoro to Mikumi takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours.
After arriving in Mikumi around midday, you will have lunch before heading into the park for your first game drive. The afternoon safari normally starts around 2:00 PM. Keep your camera ready as you explore the open Mkata River floodplain, where elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, buffaloes, impalas and lions may be seen.
You will spend two nights at Camp Bastian Mikumi. After each game drive, return to camp for a hot shower, dinner and a comfortable night's rest before the next day's wildlife adventure.

Your 3-day Mikumi safari from Dar es Salaam starts early in the morning. After a hearty breakfast at your hotel, our representative will pick you up and transfer you to the SGR station. From there, you will board the morning train toward Morogoro.
Sit back and enjoy the comfortable SGR journey. The train ride from Dar es Salaam to Morogoro takes approximately 2 hours, depending on the service scheduled for your travel date. This saves you from spending several hours on the road before your safari even begins.
After arriving in Morogoro, your private safari vehicle and professional driver-guide will meet you at the station. You will then continue toward Mikumi National Park. The road journey from Morogoro to Mikumi takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, covering about 107 km.
You will arrive in the Mikumi area around midday. After lunch, get ready for your first wildlife experience. Your afternoon game drive normally starts around 2:00 PM.
As you enter Mikumi National Park, keep your camera ready. The open plains around the Mkata River floodplain make it easier to spot wildlife. Your guide will look for elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, buffaloes, impalas and lions while following recent animal sightings.

Wake up early today because this is your main wildlife day in Mikumi. Breakfast will be served at around 6:00 AM. After breakfast, you will leave Camp Bastian at approximately 6:30 AM and head into the park.
The early morning is one of the best times for a Mikumi game drive. The air is cooler, animals are more active and predators such as lions may still be moving before the temperature becomes hotter.
Your driver-guide will take you through the Mkata River floodplain and other wildlife areas. Rather than following a fixed route, your guide will use recent sightings, tracks and local knowledge to decide where to go.
Keep watching the open grasslands and woodland edges. You may see elephants, lions, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, buffaloes, hippos, warthogs and different antelope species. Mikumi is also home to many bird species, so bird lovers should keep their binoculars ready.
Around midday, you will stop at a designated area for lunch and a short rest. After lunch, continue your game drive into the afternoon while your guide searches for more wildlife.
The afternoon safari normally continues until around 4:30–5:30 PM. You will then leave the park and return to Camp Bastian Mikumi for dinner and your second night.

Continue your morning game drive until around 9:30 AM. You will then return to Camp Bastian, freshen up and check out. After a short break, you will continue with your planned Mikumi cultural experience.
During the cultural visit, you will meet local people and learn more about everyday life around the Mikumi area. Depending on the experience arranged for your travel date, you may see traditional crafts, learn about local food and discover how communities live alongside the surrounding wildlife areas.
After the cultural experience and lunch, you will depart for Morogoro. The journey normally takes around 1.5–2 hours. Our driver will make sure you reach the SGR station in good time for your scheduled train.

On the final morning, enjoy breakfast at the camp before your last game drive. You will return later in the morning to freshen up, check out and continue with the cultural experience.
Your meals are arranged throughout the safari so you can focus on the journey and wildlife experience. Start your mornings with breakfast before heading out, enjoy lunch during the day's activities and return to camp for dinner.
Drinking water is provided during the safari. We recommend carrying a reusable water bottle and keeping some extra drinking water with you for the longer game-drive hours.
The SGR is an important part of this Mikumi safari from Dar es Salaam. Instead of spending the entire first morning travelling by road, you will take the train from Dar es Salaam to Morogoro and meet your safari vehicle there.
After arriving in Morogoro, our driver-guide will meet you and continue with you to Mikumi National Park. On the return journey, you will travel back from Mikumi to Morogoro by road before boarding the SGR to Dar es Salaam.
